Akysis vespertinus, a new species of catfish from Myanmar (Siluriformes: Akysidae)Abstract
Akysis vespertinus, new species, is described from the Ann Chaung drainage in western Myanmar. It is distinguished from congeners in having a unique combination of the following characters: narrow snout, causing head to appear acutely triangular; length of pectoral spine 17.1-22.2 % SL; length of adipose-fin base 18.8-21.1 % SL; body depth at anus 13.5-16.0 % SL; depth of caudal peduncle 7.4-9.2 % SL; length of caudal peduncle 19.0-22.8 % SL; head length 27.1-30.2 % SL; interorbital distance 24.5-28.8 % HL; length of nasal barbel 37.8-48.3 % HL; length of maxillary barbel 84.9-96.6 % HL; smooth posterior edge of pectoral spine; forked caudal fin; presence of two light saddle-shaped patches on upper surface of postdorsal region; absence of brown coloration on abdomen.
