A new species of Creagrutus from the Güejar River, Orinoco Basin, Colombia (Characiformes: Characidae)Creagrutus maculosus, new species, is described from the Güejar River, La Macarena mountain range, Orinoco Basin, Colombia. It differs from congeners in having eight dark rounded spots on the sides of the body (vs. no dark spots on the sides of the body except in C. amoenus, C. kunturus and C. mucipu); 4-5 scale rows between the lateral line and the anal-fin origin (vs. 2-4 rows except in C. lepidus and C. melasma, which have 4-5); and by the absence of small hooks on the rays of the anal and pelvic fins of males (vs. small hooks present on rays of those fins except in C. muelleri and C. nigrostigmatus). Data on the habitat of the new species are also provided.
