Squalius orpheus, a new species of cyprinid fish from Evros drainage, Greece (Teleostei: Cyprinidae).Abstract
Squalius orpheus, new species, is described from the Evros drainage in Greece. It is distinguished by: a subterminal mouth; 8½ branched dorsal-fin rays; 8½ branched anal-fin rays; 44-46 + 2 lateral line scales; depth of caudal peduncle 1.6-2.1 times in its length; free margin of flank scales faintly marked, not much contrasted against rest of scale which is also pigmented, resulting in a very poorly contrasted reticulate pattern on flank; and dorsal and anal fins with dense black pigments on most membranes and hyaline rays in both sexes.
