Six new species of fighting fish (Teleostei: Osphronemidae: Betta) from Borneo.Abstract
Betta antoni, new species, from Kalimantan Barat, differs from congeners in the B. akarensis group in having a distinct black lower lip and chin bar, and slim body (body depth 20.6-22.9 % SL). Betta mandor, new species, from Kalimantan Barat, differs from congeners in the B. foerschi group in having twin red bars on opercle, and slim body (21.2-24.2 % SL). Betta krataios, new species, in the B. dimidiata group, from Kalimantan Barat, differs from B. dimidiata in having a iridescent blue opercle, absence of elongated fin rays, more lateral scales (30-32), more predorsal scales (20-21) and deeper caudal peduncle (15.3-17.0 % SL). Betta uberis, new species, from Kalimantan Tengah, differs from congeners in the B. coccina group in having iridescent green streaks on dorsal, caudal and anal fins, iridescent green mid-lateral spot on body of male, large number of dorsal-fin rays (14-17) and subdorsal scales (12-13{), and a long dorsal-fin base length (30.0-37.3 % SL). Betta compuncta, new species, from Kalimantan Timur, differs from congeners in the B. unimaculata group in having distinct black reticulated pattern on lateral of body above anal-fin base in females and juveniles, black patch in males; orange or yellow subdistal band on lower half of caudal fin and posterior half of anal fin in females when live. Betta ideii, new species from Kalimantan Selatan, differs from congeners in the B. unimaculata group in having an orange patch between the front of the eye to the posterior margin of the upper jaw when live (pale yellow to white when preserved), large males being almost totally jet black or dark brown when preserved, 34.5-35 lateral scales and 25-27 predorsal scales.
