Wilson J. E. M. Costa:Abstract
Rivulus lazzarotoi n. sp., a member of the R. santensis species group from the Jurumirim River basin, southeastern Brazil, is described. It is hypothesized to be closely related to R. simplicis as both uniquely have numerous neuromasts in the infraorbital series. Rivulus lazzarotoi differs from R. simplicis in having its dorsal-fin origin posteriorly inserted and a longer pectoral fin in males. It is distinguished from all species of the R. santensis group in possessing minute pelvic fins, a unique colour pattern on the anal fin in males and a large and round caudal spot in females. Monophyly of the R. santensis species group is further supported by a derived arrangement of infraorbital neuromasts.
Rivulus lazzarotoi n. sp. (Teleostei: Cyprinodontiformes: Rivulidae), a new killifish from the Jurumirim River basin,
southeastern Brazil.
