A new species of Rivulus from the Claro river drainage, upper Paraná river basin, central Brazil, with redescription of R. pinima and R. vittatus (Cyprinodontiformes: Rivulidae)Abstract
Rivulus faucireticulatus, new species, collected in the Bonfim river floodplains, upper Claro drainage, upper Paraná river basin, central Brazil, is described. It differs from all other species of the subgenus Melanorivulus in having a broad sub-basal red stripe on the dorsal fin in males, ventral portion of the head with a black reticulate color pattern in females, and caudal fin orange on the dorsal and ventral portions, and yellow on the middle in females. Rivulus pinima and R. vittatus, also endemic to the Claro river drainage, are redescribed, and data on their type localities are discussed.
