Abstract

A new species, Sinocyclocheilus yaolanensis Zhou, Li et Hou, sp. nov, is described in this paper. Holotype No. 2006100060, with a total length of 154.04 mm and a standard length of 124.52 mm, was collected in October, 2006 from a subterranean river in Yaolan Village of Libo County in Guizhou Province (E 107°55'3.5", N 25°18'41.9"). Paratype specimen No. 2006100057, with a total length of 128.70 mm and a standard length of 101.80 mm, was collected as the holotype at the same time and at the site. Description: D, iii-8; A, ii-5; P, i-15-16; V, ii-8. Branched caudal fin rays 9, lateral line scales (The equation is abbreviated). Gill-raker 12~14. Pharyngeal teeth 3 rows, 2.3.4/4. 3.2. Diagnosis: The new species is similar to S. donglanensis and S. altishoulderus, but differs from the two latters in: (1) The lateral line scales are larger than that of body scales: Vs lateral scales equals body scales of the two analogical species. And the lateral line scales of the new species is (The equation is abbreviated) vs (The equation is abbreviated) and (The equation is abbreviated). (2) Gill-rakers 12~14, vs 10~12 and 0~12 and 4~5. (3) The pharyngeal teeth 3 rows, 2.3.4/4.3.2 are different with 2.3.5/5.3.2 of S. altishoulderus. (4) The new species is distributed in Liujiang River, vs S. donglanensis and A. altishoulderus which are distributed in Youjiang River and a branch of the Hongshuihe River. All specimens are kept in the Specimen Museum of the College of Life Sciences, Guizhou Normal University.
